As a freelance duck hunting fanatic when Colorado gets hit with snow and sub-zero temps there is nowhere else I would rather be than the Platte River. If you can find open water it's game over when duck hunting colorado! We got some fresh birds in with this storm, now it's game on for duck hunting 2022 and we plan to close the duck season out strong!

The previous day it was -5 degrees at shooting light and with an 8 mph west wind. We shot our three-man limit pretty quick and got a band which is pretty rare for us in Colorado. Check out that video here:    • "Sub Zero" All Drake Limit + Band | P...  

This morning wasn't nearly as cold, but the fresh ducks still wanted our medium-sized decoy spread of 1 dozen floater mallards, 1 dozen full bodies and 3 mojos. They were sucking into the calls and we picked our way through small flocks of 3-5 and got to our limit, but we never got the big group o 100+ birds like we did the day before. The highlight of this hunt for me was definitely the bull Pintail we shot that had a double sprig!
