I know, what you are possible thinking, why save Darfur? To start off, Darfur is a region in western Sudan, which is about the size of Texas. Also were you aware that Darfur is currently in the middle of genocide? It has been going on for quite some time now. Hmm. For like 6 years. Over the course of these six years, the United Nation has estimated about 200,000 Darfurians have been killed and about 2.5 million Darfurians have been displaced as of 2003. That is almost twice as much as the population in Rhode Island! But before you take action I believe it is proper to give information I received to you, who hopefully will take action!

·Sudan is located in North Africa, south of Egypt
·Khartoum is the capital of Sudan.
·The president of Sudan is General Omar al-Bashir.
·Most of the residents of Darfur are Muslims
·Some Darfurians speak Arabic and identify as Arabs; others speak African dialects and identify as Africans. Many of the African Darfurians belong to the Fur, Massalit and Zaghawa tribes. For years they have felt ignored by the central government in Khartoum.
·In retaliation for this attack, Sudans military and government-backed militias, the Janjaweed, have attacked the African residents of Darfur. Reports indicate that they have burned villages, murdered and maimed residents, poisoned wells, raped wome, stolen animals and other valuables, and kidnapped children.
·The United Nations estimates that since 2003 at least 2.5 million Darfuians have been forced to leave their villages due to the violence in the region. Most of these people live in IDP (International displaced persons due to violence or natural disasters) camps in Darfur or refugee camps in Chad.
·China, a UN member, continues to give money to the Sudan, which supports the genocide. It supports the genocide because the money that is given to the Sudan goes to the Janjaweed militia weapons, which are used to murder and hurt the residents of the Sudan.
·As of 2009 Sudans President General al-Bashir has banished all aid from the Sudan. The aid that the Sudan received was a main source for many peoples foods, shelters, and protection. By having all this banished, the genocide killings may rise.
·Darfurs genocide is nicknamed the 21st century holocaust. As we all know the holocaust was something very deleterious and horrible in our worlds past, and we need to stop this before the numbers of lives clamed are higher than the holocaust.
