After Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida, California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday evening that he deployed more first responders to assist with search and rescue efforts. The additional 70 firefighters bring the total to 354 personnel from California assisting with hurricane response efforts. Before the Category 3 storm reached land around 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time, Newsom on Monday said 144 personnel would head to Georgia. There were already 140 California-based firefighters and support staff along the Gulf Coast at the time responding to Hurricane Helene.
