What are Sawab (rewards) and what does it mean when it is said that you shall earn rewards for the good deeds you perform? Sayyidi Younus AlGohar categorically answers this question posed to him by a viewer.

Sawab (rewards) are like cryptocurrency; they do not actually exist in of themselves. The general concept that people have is that the angels on their shoulders are writing down their good deeds in their Book of Deeds. However, the angels only write down the good deeds which are good in the eyes of God.

Your actions will be judged by the intentions behind them, according to a Prophetic Tradition. If you help the needy simply because you want to earn rewards, it will not be counted as a good deed in God’s eyes. Rather, God will want to see whether or not you felt genuine sympathy and empathy for the person you were helping - and if you did, he would count that as a good deed.

The religious clerics in Pakistan play havoc with the religion. Eating is not allowed in the mosques, however, the religious clerics look for loopholes for everything. They say that if you mean to eat in the mosque, simply say that you are going to perform Ehtakaf (the last 10 days of Ramadan spent in the mosque exhibiting one’s devotion to Islam) - as if to fool God - and then go on to eat. This is a testament to the corruption in their minds. Even if you say that you plan to observe Ehtakaf, your real intentions are to eat in the mosque. So to do this is to commit a form of fraud.
