Jon Foreman - On Belief

Friends here we are: songs about Belief. This is the last (but certainly not least), in this series of the 4 overarching themes of the last 8 EPs.

If I had to pick an overarching theme in the solo endeavors of the Seasons & Wonderlands projects, it would be this: longing. I'm aching for more. I write songs about things I can't quite grasp. I'm drawn again and again to write about things that I don't fully understand.

In many ways, Belief represents the fulfillment of that longing. Faith is not a result. Rather it is a volitional, deliberate choice. A decision to venture into the deep waters where my legs no longer can touch the ground.

Much like Love, I've found that songs about belief are often hard to write. But deep in the matters of belief we have an incredible cannon to lean on, works of sinners and saints wrestling with the same questions that keep me up at night. Many of these songs begin with the words of scripture, ancient words set to a more modern tune.

These songs represent some of my favorite musical memories from around the world: singing these songs with you! So thank you! Thanks for years of community, y'all...here's to a future where we can sing these songs in the same room!
