With a thumping victory, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has won the Champawat bypolls with a vote share of 92.94 per cent. The bypoll win for Chief Minister Dhami has become even more crucial with his defeat in the assembly elections from the Khatima constituency. While the BJP became the first ruling party to be voted back to power in Uttarakhand in assembly polls, Pushkar Singh Dhami lost the Khatima constituency. The hill state of Uttarakhand started celebrating after Dhami defeated Congress candidate Bhuwan Chandra Kapri by a margin of over 55 thousand votes. Dhami contested from the Champawat seat to become a member of the state Assembly, which was a constitutional requirement he needed to fulfill within six months of being sworn in as the chief minister.
