TIPS FOR PREPARATION - PARLIAMENTARY REPORTER

QUALIFICATIONS & AGE
Bachelor's degree and shorthand speed of 160 words per minute in English/Hindi.
AGE LIMIT – 40 years.

SELECTION PROCEDURE :
Eligible candidates will have to appear in Shorthand Test, Written Test and Personal Interview at Delhi/ New Delhi only.
Shorthand Test
Shorthand Test will be of 100 marks. Dictation in English/Hindi will be at the speed of :
(i) 160 w.p.m. of 10 minutes duration to be transcribed within 1 hour 30 minutes (which includes 10 minutes for reading of notes) in case of English Shorthand Test and 1 hour 55 minutes (which includes 10 minutes for reading of notes) in case of Hindi Shorthand Test.
(ii) 140 w.p.m. of 10 minutes duration to be transcribed within 1 hour 20 minutes (which includes 10 minutes for reading of notes) in case of English Shorthand Test and 1 hour 45 minutes (which includes 10 minutes for reading of notes) in case of Hindi Shorthand Test

Not more than 5% errors will be allowed for passing the Shorthand Test. The test will be held on computer.
Written Test: - I am not able to give this part because of space limitations

The merit order of the candidates in this examination will be determined as given in the advetisement.
HOW TO APPLY
Eligible candidates have to apply (off-line) for the above post in a typewritten/printed application form, either in English or in Hindi, strictly in the format prescribed in the Advertisement.

Now, let us understand from the above that the main focus is on the requirement of shorthand speed and personal interview and in case suitable candidates with 160 wpm speed are not available, those qualifying at 140 wpm can also be considered. In other words, those presently writing at 140 wpm also have a chance to be considered.
TIPS/SUGGESTIONS
Friends - there will be a time of minimum 2 months from now for the skill exam and focussed efforts are required during his period. Let me share with you that any efforts you make at any point of time does not go waste. So always think positively so that you remain charged to do more and more and better and better and be prepared to put your best.
Practising of all the phrases of the transcription after it is checked.
Re-writing of the transcription after practising the words and phrases.
Typing on regular basis to increase the accuracy and speed so as to get more time for review of transcription before submission.
Read as much as possible to increase the vocabulary, speed, concentration, meanings, etc.
Practice general ADVANCE phrases regularly.
The kind of efforts are almost similar to what we do in any skill except the speed. Even the time given for transcription is almost on the same basis as for SSC grade C.
Plan your schedule/time-table/road map laying down as to how you would like to reach to a level where you are able to transcribe a dictation @ 160 wpm with less than 5% mistakes.
Transcribe minimum one Transcription daily of a dictation at 140/160 wpm, as the case may be, for 10 minutes. For those who are presently not taking dictation at 140/160 wpm , the dictation can be at a lower speed and less duration i.e. at 120/130 for 10 minutes or 140 wpm for 6-7 minutes - it can be increased gradually.

Revise all phrases 2-days prior to exam.
Since the advertisement is silent about the evaluation method, the candidates are required to take care of the punctuation including the use of capital letters, commas, full stops, para, etc. to the best of their abilities.
