The Food Waste Dilemma | Daniel Tay | TEDxNTU

Описание к видео The Food Waste Dilemma | Daniel Tay | TEDxNTU

Food waste is a global problem. In 2017, Singapore alone, discarded 810,000 tonnes of food. Perfectly edible but abnormally sized or shaped food stuffs are often thrown away by vendors in order to bypass the inconvenience of inefficient packaging and customer rejection. These food resources can be collected, recycled and redistributed amongst the needy, solving two problems with one action. Singaporean dumpster diver Daniel was featured by Straits Times, Channel News Asia and more. He started Sg Food rescue with his co-founder, leading a movement in combating food waste in Singapore. The organisation has conducted four food rescue missions. This is a Food Rescue programme where vegetable and fruit suppliers are approached and asked to give away their unsellable produce. Food Rescue then distributes the produce to the needy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
