Tennis Forehand Slow Motion - Court Level View - Coach Simon.
The forehand in tennis is one of the most complex shots in the game, there are so many moving parts to a pro level forehand.
Here are a few key fundamentals to look out for on your own forehand:
1. The grip - your grip will determine how much topspin but also how flat you can hit your tennis forehand. If you use a western forehand grip you'll be able to generate lots of topspin but you won't be able to flatten out the shot as much as someone with an eastern forehand grip. The semi-western forehand grip allows you to generate high levels of topspin but also to hit flatter forehands and that's why it's the most commonly used grip amongst professional tennis players on both the ATP and WTA tours. This is the grip we recommend for your tennis forehand.
2. Early preparation - coiling your body as soon as you recognize the ball is coming to your forehand is one of the key steps to generating effortless power on your tennis forehand. When you rotate your shoulders and hips, you store energy in your trunk muscles which can then be released during the forward phase of the swing, helping you generate explosive racket head speed.
