Suwannee River Hidden Gem – water sports, hiking, history, camping. Scruffy approved.
We stayed at this north Florida state park campground in April in our Grand Design Solitude fifth wheel camper. Very peaceful at night with dazzling skies & fireflies. And we hiked most of the trails with our dog, Scruffy.
“At the intersection of the Suwannee and Withlacoochee rivers” in Live Oak, Florida, enjoy biking, hiking, boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, camping, birding (part of the Great Florida Birding Trail) and history dating back to the 1800s. See remnants of an old Sawmill, oldest Florida cemetery, the Civil War, and CCC work.

CAMPGROUND:
“30 oak-shaded sites with electricity, water, sewer, picnic table and fire ring. Three campsites are ADA accessible. The campground offers an ADA accessible restroom with showers. A dump station is also available.” Maximum RV length = 45 feet. Pets Welcome. Starlink difficult
CABINS:
Five riverside cabins accommodates up to four people. These spacious two-bedroom cabins have heating and cooling, an electric fireplace, screened porch, and kitchenette. They are fully equipped with linens and kitchen utensils. There is a two-night minimum stay for all cabin rentals. No pets allowed.

PROS: small campground; natural greenery/trees; full hookups; many hiking trails (with bridges, springs, boardwalks, old cemetery, forests); dog friendly; cabins (no dogs allowed); bathhouse; laundry; boat ramp; gate code; fire pit/grill/picnic table/clothesline; fireflies; purchase wood at ranger station; passport stamp at ranger station; large day use area across from campground
CONS: Trees obstruct Starlink; bathhouse not working at the time; dump station closed; no kayak rental from the park; no recycling; ticks; poor cell phone reception (ATT)
