FIRE/EMS TRAINING ACADEMY
Fire/EMS Training Academy is a program in the Public Safety pathway. This elective is for students who care about rescuing people in danger; want to learn about fire techniques and equipment; and want to learn skills and knowledge to be EMT certified. Students interested in Fire/EMS should be in good physical condition, have a desire to learn medical knowledge, have concern for the well-being of other people, have the ability to work on a team, and be able to remain calm under pressure.

NOTE: STUDENT MUST BE 16 years old by (AUGUST) START OF SCHOOL YEAR as a JUNIOR.

The Fire/EMS Training Academy is a two-year program. The first year of the curriculum covers the foundation of firefighting and EMS, which looks at such topics as the history of public safety, ethics, first aid/CPR, medical emergencies, fire behavior, communications, Hazmat training and much more. Juniors attend program at Tri-C East; seniors attend at Tri-C West. Students will be able to obtain an EMT certification and Fire Fighter I and II certification or APCO Telecommunication Certificates, allowing them to search for employment in those careers at the age of 18.
NEW CRITERIA FOR FIRE/EMS STUDENTS ENTERING SENIOR YEAR - After junior year students need to meet a set of requirements for advancing to senior year. Following is the criteria [all] that need to be met:
-Obtain AHA CPR Card; -Completion of NIMS 100;
-Completion of NIMS 700; -Accumulated HS GPA
2.0 min; -Program Accumulated GPA 2.5 min; -Senior Status at Home School
OR – a student has the option of taking and earning a total score of 13 on the [3] WorkKeys tests.

Credits: Junior Year - 3 credits (1 Course-3 credits)
Senior Year - 3 credits (1 Course-1.5 credits, 2 Courses-.75 credits/each)
