There is no end to the mystery about the CAVE OF PORA HILL of Bankura. As there are many opinions on how this cave was created, there are also differences of opinion on the period of its construction. But roughly everyone agrees that this cave is not a creation of nature. This cave is in the middle of the PORA HILL (পোড়া পাহাড়) .The length and width of the cave is surprising. A total of seven tunnels have been made by cutting the walls on both sides of the cave. It is dark inside the cave. As soon as you enter the cave a little bit, you will face breathing problem due to lack of oxygen. Currently inside the cave there is free living of crickets and bats. Some locals say this cave was the home of primitive man. However, there are opposing views. Some say that during the British period others say that this tunnel was built in independent India to search for minerals in this hill as a government initiative. Real information can be found if the subject is researched.

Caves of Shushunia Hills in Bankura, Caves of Mashak Hills or Caves of Laljal Hills in neighboring Jhargram district have found traces of earlier human habitation. In that case, the historical importance of the pora hill cave is enough.

How to get to this cave? On the road from Bankura to Ranibandh, take the paved road on the right after Sahebbandh intersection near Khatra. Four kilometers further along that road are pora hills. You can see the mouth of the cave after reaching the middle height by walking along the inaccessible road of this mountain. The distance of this hill from Mukutmanipur, (the famous tourist destination of Bankura) is 8 km. Distance from Jhilimili is 22 km.If you want to go to the cave, take the help of local people. Otherwise there is a possibility of frequent wrong way on the forest hill roads. It is better not to enter too deep into the cave. In that case, the danger of reptile or wild animal attack remains.
