Have you ever imagined your kitchen pantry as a medicine cabinet? Well here are the top five healing herbs to keep in your kitchen so you can help keep your family healthy and strong.
The first healing herb on my list is ginger. This magical root of the ginger spice is great in helping you digest food. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, ginger is considered a warming herb that creates warmth in the digestion and aids in the healing of the body. In addition to treating digestive issues, ginger also helps with body pain, nausea, cough, cold and menstrual cramps. Ginger is best stored unpeeled in the refrigerator and can last up to more than a month.
The second most healing herb to keep in your kitchen is Cinnamon. And like ginger, cinnamon has a warming property to the body. The spice is popularly used for digestive problems, infections, menopausal problems, chest pain, hernia and kidney problems. Most people use cinnamon for baking, but consider adding a dash of cinnamon to your tea or coffee each day or sprinkle it on gluten free toast or some coconut ice cream as a treat. Cinnamon is best stored in containers with tight fitting lids in the pantry and can last 3-4 years.
The third most healing herb is Oregano. Oregano has antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Oregano provides vitamins A, C, E and K, along with folate, vitamin B6, calcium, iron, magnesium and potassium as well as fiber. You can use dried oregano in sauces or fresh oregano sprinkled on vegetables and salads. Oil of oregano as a supplement may be helpful for fighting yeast flare ups in the body.
The fourth most healing herb to keep in your kitchen is Garlic. Garlic is known to modestly reduce high blood pressure, heart disease, sinus and fungal infections. It can also prevent cancer of various types including colon, rectal and lung. Fresh garlic is best stored as it is attached to the bulb at room temperature.
The fifth and final most healing herb to keep in your kitchen is Tumeric. Turmeric is a plant from the ginger family and is effective for arthritis, stomach ache, heartburn, liver disease, lung infection and Alzheimer’s disease. It is considered helpful in treating infection, bruises, cuts and injuries. You should store fresh turmeric in the refrigerator in a plastic bag or airtight container for a week or two, or freeze it for several months.
And, there you have it folks!
