BirchTalk with E.ON Group Innovation: How the EU is forcing companies to rethink green energy

As part of one of Europe's largest energy companies, E.ON Group Innovation is launching innovative solutions and supporting E.ON in shaping a green, digital and decentralized energy world.

The EU's CSRD Directive, which has just come into force, places new requirements on companies: From this year, companies must report their electricity consumption using two methods - market-based and location-based. The market-based method corresponds to the previous “green electricity” method, i.e. if my supplier sells it to me, I can report it as such. This often means a balance sheet “zero” in the ESG report, as green electricity does not cause any emissions. However, companies must now also report on a site-specific basis - in simple terms, the local electricity mix as it comes out of the socket. In most cases, this value will not be “zero”, as the reality of electricity production in Germany is currently different.

In the web talk, Torsten Dahmen, Senior Innovation Manager at E.ON Group Innovation, and Stephan Noller, CEO at UBIRCH, discuss the challenges facing the energy industry and how E.ON is tackling and overcoming them through consistent innovation.
