I am Zainab, Zahra hear my tragedy
Join me in my grief mother and mourn with me

Mother do you, know what happened in Karbala
Mother do you, know what happened on Ashura
Hear my story, my trials and misery
Sorrow and pain, wails and calamities

I had to witness all my loved ones suffer
Yet all I saw was beauty in Karbala

I had to hear, the cries of mothers one by one
From Layla to, Ramlaa as they all lost their sons
With an arrow, Harmala he showed no mercy
Just 6 months old, he killed Asghar he died thirsty

As the arrow hit Ashgar would shake his feet
Whilst in Hussains arm, lifeless under the heat

Abbas would go, to quench our thirst, to bring water
Instead he’d die, mother he’d go to his slaughter
They struck Abbas, with an iron, poll on his head
Whilst on his horse, he’d fall to the ground where he bleed

They severed from him his left hand and his right
And with an arrow, they’d aim and shoot his eyes

Mother I saw, Shimir sit, on Hussains chest
He’d cross his leg, whilst grabbing my brothers head
Zahra this was Wallah not an easy test
To see Shimir, with his dagger sever his neck

Allahu Akbar his head high on a spear
Horses would trample, the bones crush I could hear

To Shaam I was, taken captive, what a journey
Along the way, tied in ropes, they would drag me
My hands shackled, with the all heads, in front of me
I’d see Hussain, his eyes would move and gaze at me

Shimir would laugh and with his whip he’d hit me
If only mother you were here with Ali

His choice of poetry, melodies and recitations has allowed him to become recognised across the English Shia speaking world.
