Break the rule of thirds or use the rule of thirds. In this coastal photography session I'm going to do both because, although the rule of thirds is a great piece of guidance there are times when you just have to break the rules.

I had intended to do an afternoon trip out but, as sometimes happens, plans changed and I ended up heading out to the local marina and beach for a quick sunset shoot. As well as covering some thoughts on breaking the rule of thirds I also reflect on the way that nature can tease you in to thinking something is going to happen.
