Johnny Flynn : After Elliot & Bottom of the Sea Blues : Tabernacle 18 July 2013

Johnny Flynn performs new songs 'After Elliot' and 'Bottom of the Sea Blues' live at the Tabernacle in Notting Hill, accompanied by his sister, Lillie.

The multi-talented Johnny Flynn has been largely absent from the live music circuit for the last couple of years, having been focusing on his theatre and film career, including acclaimed performances in Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night' and 'Richard III' at the Globe, and the multi-award winning 'Jerusalem' in the West End. On film, Johnny appeared in 'The Lotus Eaters', and stars in the forthcoming 'Song One' alongside Anne Hathaway!

Johnny now returns to live music performance with a short solo tour, ahead of the release of his much anticipated new album. All dates sold out quickly, and Johnny announced on Facebook that further dates would follow later in the year. There will also be a handful of festival appearances with The Sussex Wit, including the Mumford & Sons Lewes Stopover, Larmer Tree and Green Man. See links for details.

One final thought. Just how amazing is Lillie Flynn?! Literally minutes before this performance she was still in a cab, delayed on her way to the venue. Lillie had been due to join Johnny halfway though his set, and Johnny had already re-jigged the setlist a little, when he announced that he would have to do one of the songs he'd intended to play with Lillie without her. Just as Johnny was about to hit the first notes, several of the audience shouted, "She's here, she's here!" And up stepped Lillie -- straight out of the cab and onto the stage! You would never have guessed. Totally cool and wonderful as ever. What a professional!
