Dennis Arne (Telemark Geosciences) presents 'Gold Exploration in Victoria: Renaissance, Resurrection, Replay?' at the GSA SGEG Facets of exploration webinar.

Abstract: Gold exploration in Victoria has benefited from a renaissance in our understanding of the geology of central Victorian gold deposits with respect to tectonic setting, timing, structural controls and hydrothermal alteration. While gold production within Victoria has slowly been on the rise since the late 1980s (the resurrection), it was the discovery of the Swan zone at Fosterville that led to it becoming one of the most profitable gold mines globally in the last three years, as well as driving record investment in gold exploration in Victoria. Despite our new understanding of gold mineralization in central Victoria, it is not clear that these new concepts are being incorporated into exploration strategies. The Victorian exploration industry risks discovering more of the same style of gold mineralization that has proven to be economically unviable in the past
