How to make a Saggar | Coalport China Museum

Описание к видео How to make a Saggar | Coalport China Museum

Justine demonstrates how to make a saggar, a lidless box made from clay. China was placed into saggars, which provided protection from flames, soot, and smoke during firing in the kiln. Saggars were designed to be stacked in columns. They are no longer required because modern kilns are fired using electricity; therefore, the skill of saggar making is endangered. The saggars made by Justine and company are now sold as flower pots.

Filmed at the Coalport China Museum in the Ironbridge Gorge, Shropshire.
