Believe it or not, keeping some easy healthy snacks for weight loss around is actually a key part of a great weight loss diet. Because there’s usually a fair amount of time between our lunch and dinner and if you don’t allow yourself something small to refuel and fight off cravings there’s a good chance you’ll overeat at your next meal and hurt your weight loss results in the process.
What A Basic Weight Loss Meal Looks Like (1:53)
Before we dive into the best snack ideas for weight loss, let's look at a proper weight loss meal. This is a 500 calorie framework where 1/2 of your plate is your favorite veggie, 1/4 is your favorite healthy carb source, and 1/4 has one of your favorite protein sources.
So What’s The Goal For Weight Loss Snacks (2:58)
So, assuming you have your meals in check, discovering the best snack ideas to lose weight starts with an understanding of their purpose. Healthy snacks bridge the larger gaps between meals (like lunch and dinner) to keep your hunger and blood sugar levels stable. But, of course, we still need to pick the best ones.
(3:38) Snacks High In Protein And Low In Carbs
Easy healthy snacks to lose weight that are high in protein are the best way to let your brain know “Hey, we got some food, so shut up about being hungry”. But just because something has protein doesn’t make it a good choice. If it has loads of carbs you’re going to mess with your blood sugar and energy levels.

Another great addition to your easy snacks to lose weight is a high-quality fruit. And your best choices are fruits that are lower in sugar and higher in fiber. Our favorite choices are things like organic nectarines, berries, apples, kiwis, plums, grapefruit…
What About Nuts? (6:05)
Nuts can be a great addition to a piece of fruit for your snack. They add in the extra protein, and they have the right healthy fats in them which are great at stabilizing our blood sugar levels. We’re looking for around 1/4 cup of nuts, which is roughly 150 calories (about a cupped handful).
Protein Shakes For Weight Loss Snacks (6:52)
A high-quality protein powder can be a great choice for your snack, especially paired with some nuts, oats, and fruit. But do know that a protein shake isn’t going to be quite as effective at reducing your hunger levels as some of the protein snacks, but it can work.

When looking at protein/snack bars, we want to look at the protein to sugar ratio. Our ideal target is per 20 grams of protein we’re looking for less than 3gs of sugar.

Eating a little bit of quality dark chocolate (around the 80% mark) will not only take care of some cravings, but it also has some incredible antioxidant benefits. But as with all the snacks, we still need to be mindful of eating too much.

While these kinds of snacks aren’t necessarily the best choice for your weight-loss snack, they can be included if you watch your portions, quality, and calories. We want to stay away from chips that use low quality oil because they are high in bad fats. And we want to avoid things that are filled with low-quality corn.
