As we wrap up 2025, we’ve been reflecting on what it means to be a "Community Media Center." It’s a title we take seriously, but as our latest annual report video, "From the Heart | What We Do Together 2025," shows, the reality is much more personal than a title can convey.

WPAA-TV and Community Media Center supports the production of video, the telling of stories, and engagement in conversations in the public interest. As the year draws to a close, the volunteer staff compiles the clips that highlight what represents the flavor of the year in an Annual Video Report. Many moments this year were heartfelt.

To be considered for the Overall Excellence awards, Community Media Centers can submit up to 20 minutes of content to demonstrate their work. WPAA-TV has been recognized frequently based on their Annual Report Submissions. Most recently, WPAA-TV was awarded Overall Excellence in New England for Democracy Is A Creative Practice, which reflected many of the stories in 2024.

Honoring Those We’ve Lost
The most profound part of this year's report is the dedication at the close. Video and audio allow us to keep the spirit of our neighbors alive in a way words on a page never could:
• A Legacy of Leadership: We remember a founder who saw the "rebirth of activity" in our community like the blooming of spring flowers.
• The Power of Voice: We honor the storyteller who reminded us that even the smallest details—like "eyebrows"—matter, and whose battle with cancer didn't dim her light in our studio.
• A Resonating Note: We remember our 25-year-old music-maker intern and the losses felt by the Independent Wrestling Community, a show that has been a staple of our airwaves since 1996.
Why Media Matters
This is why we do what we do. Audio and visual elements capture the "brightness" in a person’s eyes when they talk about sobriety or the specific ring of a bell for a lost friend. We aren't just documenting meetings; we are preserving the essence of people.
