CSSSA Animation Application -ACCEPTED 2021(Out Of State)

I started this in mid January and finished my last piece the night before the deadline 😅😅

Assignment A: This part of the application stumped me so much because I had a hard time figuring out what made me unique. So out of desperation I chose my really long toes, and used saturated colours to trick people into thinking that I have a bright and colourful personality 🥸🥸 I chose to go with a realistic style to show my flexibility.

Assignment B: Jefferson Airplane’s: White Rabbit gave off a hazy psychedelic vibe, which is what inspired the honey like smoke and unsettling atmosphere. I also just love to draw girls with pink hair- maybe every door on the wall leads to a different world but the mushroom girl can only watch from afar on her platform.

Assignment C: I kept putting this part of the application off until I was scrambling to finish it on the night before the deadline. 😛 I tried to have variety in the pieces that I submitted, hence the drawing of my desk and the drawing of my friend’s cat. My main focus was showing that I had an understanding of volume, utilizing background knowledge from doing figure studies.

Assignment D: oooo the short animation was probably what I struggled with the most. I’ve never animated anything other than a bouncing ball before this so it was pretty tough. I followed the book “Cartoon Animation” by Preston Blair, and the tutorials in it were super helpful for a beginner animator like me. I read somewhere that CSSSA preferred scenes that told a story, so that’s how the story of this little burger came about.
