GENTLEMAN JACK Anne Lister - a tour of Shibden Hall Halifax

Tour of Shibden Hall, Halifax. home to Anne Lister better known as Gentleman Jack. The secret diary's of Anne Lister were found within the walls of Shibden Hall and made into the HBO BBC TV Drama GENTLEMAN JACK played by Suranne Jones.

The Gentlemen Jack TV series created by Sally Wainwright used Shibden Hall, the lily pond and surrounding gardens for filming locations. Filming a second series is underway.

Shibden Hall is a Grade 2 listed house built in 1420 and located in a public park in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England.

The adjacent 17th century barn houses a collection of carriages. The stone barn including a blacksmiths, coopers, wheelwrights and saddlers.

For plus size visitors the house is very accessible, with plenty of seating outside in the gardens and the house itself is of moderate size when compared to the great mansion houses of the era.

Accessibility
Due to the historic nature of the architecture of Shibden Hall there is restricted access for wheelchair users to the Ground Floor only. Disabled parking is available adjacent to the Hall (accessed off Lister's Road).
