Welcome to our channel! In this week's video, we take you on a journey to the quintessential Old English village of Aldbury in Hertfordshire, England. This is rich in history and is nestled in the picturesque English countryside. As the sun casts a golden glow on this crisp January morning, we explore the echoes of an ancient settlement that may date back to 10 BC, making it older than the Norman Conquest.

Aldbury has been declared a Conservation Area due to its special character and heritage value. The fields surrounding the village have remained largely unchanged since the late medieval period, adding to the village's heritage and ambiance.

If you're planning a visit, you can park at the sports ground on Stocks Road and take a short walk to the village center. Along the way, you'll be able to admire the magnificent 16th and 17th-century cottages that line the streets.

As we approach the village's heart, we come across a piece of living history - the original stocks and a whipping post from the late Middle Ages. These relics were once used for public punishment and humiliation. The stocks were reserved for petty crimes like blasphemy and swearing, while more serious offence’s such as theft or not attending church were punished with public whippings at the Pillory post.

One of the notable landmarks in Aldbury is St. John the Baptist church. It was granted to Missenden Abbey by William de Bocland around 1200 and has since evolved to its present form by the end of the 13th century.
