The number of electric vehicles (EVs) will grow significantly now that UK Government has announced that all new cars and vans must be fully zero emission by 2035. In order to avoid excessive strain on the electricity system, the charging of EVs needs to be managed in such a way that it does not take place during peak-hours and that it can be managed remotely to help balance the grid.

Support for this so-called "smart charging" is mandated by the Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021 for all new private (domestic and workplace) charge points sold in Great Britain. These regulations have come into force on 30 June 2022, except for the security requirements, which will come into force on 30 December 2022.

The Open charge Alliance has published a Whitepaper on this subject, which is be presented during this webinar. The paper describes how the smart charging and security capabilities of OCPP can be used to achieve that a charging station meets the requirements of the regulation.

The Whitepaper can be downloaded on the website of the Open Charge Alliance.
