Aboard the USS Drum 13 October 2024

So we proceeded to Blakeley Island in Mobile to the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.

Once again due to insufficient time, it was a quick whiz through the submarine USS DRUM and WWII battleship USS ALABAMA. It’s certainly an attraction not to be missed. https://www.ussalabama.com/

The USS Drum (SS228) is the oldest American submarine on public display. You can learn about her 72 member crew and her missions during the war. The submarine is the first Navy ship named after a type of fish called the drum. She was the first ship to enter combat in World War II.

Drum is credited with sinking 15 ships and received 12 battle stars for her WW2 service.

Fascinating history indeed and so much to learn. I enjoyed walking through the door hatches and climbing up and down the step ladders to look through the periscope. One could spend a couple of hours here!
