"Weight cutting was the part of the sport that I enjoyed the least. I would typically drop around 10 to 14 pounds to fight at my weight class. The process would start about 3 days before the fight. I would limit my rice and water intake, and do long runs in the oppressive afternoon heat while wearing a full-body sauna suit.

Weigh-ins were done on the same day of the fight, early in the morning. I would arrive for the weigh-in slightly overweight by 1 or 2 pounds. After the first round of weight check, I would put on my sauna suit to run off the last few pounds. It was a personal preference; I did not like to arrive at weigh-in feeling completely depleted. I was usually never more than 3 pounds overweight. Though there was one fight where I had to cut 5 pounds in the morning of the fight.

It was against Attachai, and I had not managed my weight cut properly. I ran and sweated and could not muster anymore fluids off me after dropping 3 pounds. Attachai's manager agreed to the fight anyway. There was too much at stake. But as a penalty, he made me do ten 50-metre sprints, immediately followed by 30 squat jumps. This was on top of the cut off my prize purse that I had to hand over to him.

In my dehydrated state, by the 20th squat jump my muscles were already twisted in knots of agony. I asked him for a concession. Satisfied with how depleted I appeared after taking the punishment, he relented. I fumed in my mind, “I would kill your fighter in the ring later tonight.”

Attachai proved to be a more frustrating match than I had expected. He was slick, tricky, unpredictable, and evasive. It was a 5-round war, which ended in a draw. Till today he is still one of the toughest guys I have ever fought."
