An oft-heard line of the power-elite in India is, 'Do you know who I am?'

In an incident in Kerala's capital Thiruvananthapuram this week, the city mayor and her MLA husband stopped a KSRTC bus, alleging that the driver was driving rashly and that he had shown her a sexually explicit action.

The driver and mayor complained to police, but initially the police refused to register the driver's complaint.

Passengers in the bus slinked away, no one daring to ask the mayor or MLA how they could abruptly disrupt a bus service.

India is planning a uniform civil code. Perhaps a uniform civil behaviour is more urgent.
