For this week’s project I tried something a bit different…

I built my first ever, custom, Star Wars creation! Really I just modified a bunch of existing files from Thingiverse because I have zero 3D modeling skills (links below lol).

This was a birthday gift for a close friend of mine and the only prompt from him that I had to go off of was, “Star Wars shoe box.” At the time, I knew next to nothing about modifying .STL files, but I jumped in head first and I’m incredibly proud of the result!

I knew that in order to make this box an interesting item to look at, and for it to feel like it was from the lived in universe of Star Wars, I’d need to cram as many details into it as I could. With that in mind, I spent a lot of time in the pre-production stage brainstorming and tweaking things until everything felt cohesive. This project was a lot of firsts for me as well as continued practice for other techniques I’ve been learning lately.

In this video I’ll touch on:

How I modified existing files to create something new and unique.
My thought process concerning the aesthetics of the overall project.
How to give your 3d resin prints a realistic aged metal look.
How to use texture spray to add visual interest to the surface of your 3d prints.
How I created the faux, aged leather interior padding that mimics the Dejarik holo-chess bench on board The Millennium Falcon.
How I modified an existing file to make a fully functional SCOMP link/ droid dialer/ droid interface control panel switch.
How I wired up lights and sound without any complicated programming knowledge.
