My friends and I went on a summer road trip to Montauk and explored Camp Hero, which is the military base with a crazy history that inspired Stranger Things, the hit Netflix Series. I've lived on Long Island my entire life, and I've been to Montauk several times, but I've never explored the military base Camp Hero before today!

Let me just say, this place is crazy cool and super fascinating! Definitely watch some documentaries about Montauk and Camp Hero before coming out here, because it only enhances your experience if you know all the alleged activity and disgusting experiments that happened here. Stranger Things was supposed to take place in Montauk, with Camp Hero as the actual epicenter of all things strange. I actually found the original screenplay for the pilot episode of Stranger Things when it was still called 'Montauk' and was supposed to be centered around Montauk. As a Long Islander I'm definitely sad that they decided to name and location change, however this place does not lose its spook factor one bit.
