We are thrilled to share the success of our first ever Gloss University Advanced Paint Correction class, held at our brand new headquarters in Carol Stream, Illinois. This was an intensive two day class with passionate students from near and far. The main goal of this two day class was to showcase advanced wet sanding and paint correction techniques.

Many technicians that start working in the detailing industry learn how to polish paint either from YouTube, friend or coworker. It can be difficult to truly understand whats actually happing when you are polishing paint and using a buffer. Additionally, when it comes to using sand paper on paint finishes, it can be confusing and dangerous if you do not have any formal training. This is why Gloss University has created a program to elevate the current and future technicians in the detailing industry.

What set this class apart was the variety of vehicles and paint systems to work with. Along with having multiple vehicles to work with, Gloss University owns a wide rage of tools, equipment, pads and products to practice with. Our students had the pleasure to work on a classic 60's era Cadillac with single stage paint. We also had a early 2000's era Merceds Benz with severely neglected all original factory paint. The Cadillac represents an older vehicle with aftermarket single stage paint, this vehicle provided students with a unique challenge to restore. The Mercedes Benz was a model featuring a high solid clear coat presenting a different set of obstacles and opportunities for both sanding and paint correction. In addition to working on live vehicles, students had the chance to refine their techniques on painted panels. This allowed them to practice and understand the differences between various paint finishes without the pressure of working directly on a vehicle.

A core focus of the class was hands on techniques of wet sanding, weather by hand or using a DA (Dual Action) machine. This is a valuable part of leaning how to wet sand because both techniques are widely used int the industry and can be very beneficial to understand when either technique should our should not be used. Once the sanding process was complete the next step involved mastering the art of paint correction to restore the surface to a flawless finish. Our focus was not just on the techniques themselves, but on the critical thinking behind them. Why might one approach be better than another for a particular paint type? How does the age and condition of the paint impact the restoration process? By understanding the answers to these questions, our students are left with a deeper level of expertise and are ready to tackle even the most challenging projects.

The dedication and enthusiasm of our students were truly inspiring, and their progress over the two days was nothing short of incredible. We are very proud to say that our first Advanced Paint Correction class was a resounding success and wee look forward to seeing the amazing results our students will achieve in the future.
