As part of the Men in the Wild series, we’re talking about something many men were never taught to face: women’s safety isn’t hypothetical—it’s daily, embodied, and costly.

Most women are navigating fear, calculation, and risk in ways men were never trained to notice. And too often, we respond by minimizing it, distancing ourselves from it, or insisting it has nothing to do with us. Not because we’re cruel—but because believing them would require us to feel grief, fear, and responsibility we were never taught how to hold.

If we actually want the women in our lives to be safer, the work starts with two things: believing what they tell us about their reality, and letting ourselves feel what that truth brings up instead of explaining it away or trying to control it.
