In this edition of A Conversation In Jazz we talk to the incomparable pianist/keyboardist, composer/arranger, producer/engineer, and educator, Mr. Vince Evans. In Part 1 of our 2 Part interview, Vince gives us a glimpse into his early background coming up in a musical family and cultivating his lifelong passion for music amongst many other things. He also talks about his early years playing in the church with his friend and musical comrade, the dynamic electric bassists, Dave Dyson, and ultimately both pursuing higher education at the Berkley College of Music. From his college years to performing with some of most renown entertainers in the music industry, you not only get a deeper insight into the mind of Vince Evans, but you also are privy to his deep knowledge and understanding, his wit and wisdom and his tastes for a wide array of life's pleasantries, including his penchant for combining music and magic, cooking and gaming.
Vince was born in Washington DC. He earned his BA in Music Production and Engineering from the esteemed Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
He is mostly recognized as a veteran musician and teacher of music. He has performed and recorded with many celebrities such as Prince, Phyllis Hyman, Al Jarreau, George Benson, Eddie Murphy, MC Hammer, Joe McIntyre, Commissioned, Jonathan Butler, Pieces of a Dream, Bill Withers, Gerald Albright, Luther Vandross, Lenny White, Lalah Hathaway, Isaac Hayes, Patti LaBelle, Angie Stone, Chuck Brown and Dianne Reeves...to name a few!
He bases his operations from a recording studio, rehearsal space and teaching facility in Lanham, MD.
His music preparation services are second-to-none and his talents as a music director are widely recognized in the music industry.
He teaches vocal technique, piano technique, music theory, improvisation and music production.
Vince has developed his own system for teaching necessary music theory to students of all ages and performance levels.
His hobbies include kite flying, golf, cooking, magic, table tennis and video gaming.
