🏳️‍🌈 21 years an counting!

This past January we celebrated our 21st anniversary. Yep, you heard it, 21+ years together! That’s like 42 in straight years.

We were joking that the Soda Stream that we still have in our kitchen that I bought John in 2013 has seen more of our straight friends/acquaintances have their first and second marriages come and go. Have you seen the same?

“What did you guys do to make it last?” is a question we get often. The answer is that we have always been truly supportive of each other’s goals, even when they didn’t align perfectly.

When John was dealing with a toxic job, I stepped up and covered all our bills and expenses so he could take a few months off, get over his burnout and find a job that he could be happy and successful at.

The key to that was having a strong, simple and easy to stick to financial plan. Ours basically came down to having 3 goals that we both agreed were worthy of working towards:

1️⃣ Save for a happy reitrement
2️⃣ Only travel on cash instead of credit cards
3️⃣ Give back to the LGBTQ community with our time and money

Everything else we decided wasn’t a high priority. Did we have separate goals, of course. Did we talk about them with each other, of course. Were they always aligned? Nope, but we supported each other towards them.
