Ever wondered, “do I have aspergers or social anxiety, or do i have aspergers or autism?

It’s easy to get confused when looking at terms like autism spectrum disorder and high functioning autism, but what does it all mean and how are they all used.

To be frank, they are all the same thing now just called Autism Spectrum Disorders. Aspergers Syndrome is an older term that was used to diagnose people on the autism spectrum with lower support needs up until 2013 when the DSMV (diagnostic criteria) changed.

This change made an amazing impact on the way people who were being diagnosed as Asperger’s syndrome accessed help and support.

Being an adult aspergers diagnosis person myself my diagnosis papers still say Aspergers but when someone asked me do I have aspergers I will respond yes but also inform them that it is now just called Autism Spectrum disorder.

Likewise if I am asked do I have autism I will respond with yes, however my diagnosis paper says Aspergers Syndrome, again it makes no difference they are the exactly the same thing.
