Jeep Renegade off road at Horse Creek, TN.

Jeep Renegade Nazgul and the Kentucky JROG visit Horse Creek. This is my second trip to this trail. I did Horse Creek in 2019 with the Scenic Off-Road group from TN when Nazgul did not have any mods other than BFGoodrich KO2 tires and a roof rack, barely modified. It was also the very first trail I did with Nazgul. This time Nazgul was better prepared. This is a pretty steep climb in the smokey mountains and the renegades tend to have the transmission temperature rise above 200-230 degrees. We made several stops to allow the temperature drop so we could continue climbing up. We reached one of the overlook areas and took a few photos.

This trail can be done with very few mods. All terrain tires are necessary since there are plenty of rocks that can cause a flat tire. I don’t believe you need 4x4 but anything can happen when off-roading. Skid plates are not required but they definitely help preventing damage under the Jeep, especially the rear differential. Extra tire is recommended. During my first trip one of the guys ended up puncturing two tires but he was using all season tires and was not prepared at all for this terrain.

This is a pretty easy trail and it has a beautiful scenery to look at. I highly recommend it.
