When you go salmon fishing on Vancouver Island, a grizzly bear momma and two cubs is not what you expect to see! Black bears, of course and I look forward to that! But, my mood and comfortability changed immediately when this momma bear caught my scent or became aware of my presence - that's when she ran out and looked around. I was slightly downwind (or thought I was) and over 500 yards away tucked away in the bushes. I started to think about my retreat and other options if she did see me.
