Farmers stage inheritance tax protest in front of Welsh Labour conference

Farmers spanning three generations descended on the Welsh Labour conference on Saturday to protest the UK government’s changes to inheritance tax.

Dozens of tractors and farm vehicles were driven into Llandudno where the prime minister addressed delegates and defended the reforms.

The autumn budget announced that from April 2026 farms worth more than £1 million will have to pay 20 per cent tax above that threshold. It is a blow for Parry. For decades, farming families have been able to pass on their property including land used for crops and animals as well as buildings without having to pay any tax.
