Hellaverse, Queerphobia, and Fandom Discourse | Femme Makeup Chat

Hello Sinners, this week we’re discussing queerphobia within fandom spaces and wider fandom discourse! Strap in it’s gonna be a fun one! Needless to say general content warning for discussions of queerphobia.
This subject comes after a comment on my channel asking my thoughts about the prevalence of cishet men taking up more fandom space as opposed to queer women and this got me thinking about overall queerphobia within fandom spaces particularly within the Hellaverse fandom. While I can’t really speak to having noticed an inordinate amount of cishet men taking up space in the fandom (as opposed to any other) I have heard some stories where such people have tried to push queer people out of spaces which is where the overarching theme of this video comes from. What I found is a lot of times like any other fandom often the queerphobia is coming from inside the house— Is the Hellaverse fandom more queerphobic than any other? Probably not. It isn’t to say it doesn’t happen at all but it’s not necessarily worse here than anywhere else.
As someone who has actively been in fandom spaces for nearly 20 years now I’ve definitely seen discourse across all manner of topics when it comes to fandom. Most of the time it’s been ship specific (because a lot of drama tends to come from that) but sometimes it’s a larger fandom issue.
