2/11 TAKSIM: Oud Hüzzam taksim+ şarkı by Tanrıkorur

Cinuçen Tanrıkorur's Lecture-Demonstration on "TAKSIM (Improvisation) in Turkish Music" at the New England Conservatory in Boston, Mass. USA in 1994.

English was Tanrıkorur's fifth language which he said he learnt by watching cowboy movies when he was a high school student. He spoke Turkish, Italian and French very fluently as he attended the Italian School in Istanbul and his teachers were all native speakers.

Tanrıkorur introduces himself as a 20th century representative & continuation of the lost "aşık =lover" minstrel or troubador in the classical Turkish musical tradition. Tanrıkorur gives a demonstration of this tradition by performing a taksim in the maqam Hüzzam and then singing Mustafa Nafız Irmak's "şarkı" in Hüzzam maqam_"Gönlüm nice bir senden uzak günleri saysın".
