What can technology do for peace in all stages of crisis: prevention, before the conflict, during a war and after it? What is peacetech and how it can support peacebuilding?

With the intense war situation going on in Ukraine, Peace Invaders, Wicked Helsinki, and Aaltoes organized Peacetech Forum that aimed to address the answers to these questions. You will learn what peace work is in today’s society, and how we can use technology to transform conflicts.

We were joined by speakers from peace organizations and peacetech experts:

👉 Aape Pohjavirta is the Founder and President of Funzi. Aape has become an industry leader with a vision of how science, technology, and innovation will contribute to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

👉 Maria Mekri is the Executive Director at SaferGlobe. Previously she was the peace and security thematic lead at the United Nations Innovation Labs. Maria is experienced in post-conflict situations and creating practical solutions for crisis situations.

👉 Jyri Wuorisalo specializes in business in developing countries and crisis areas, and human security. He works as an RDI advisor at Savonia AMK and coordinates the Human Security Finland network focusing on Climate Security.

👉 Mikaeli Langinvainio has a lot of experience in the field of peace mediation. In 2016 he, together with Juha Törmänen, started Inclus Ltd, to which they transferred from Crisis Management Initiative (CMI). Inclus provides inclusive risk management software both to companies and more broadly to conflict transformation processes.

👉 Lisa Glybchenko is a peacebuilder from Ukraine and currently, a doctoral researcher working on her PhD project inspired by her grassroots peacebuilding work. This Friday, she will bring us the Ukrainian point of view.

👉 In addition, we had the pleasure of having a video keynote from William Ury – an American author, academic, anthropologist, and negotiation expert. He co-founded the Harvard Program on Negotiation.

In the end of the event we took the awareness to action and ideated about what can we do right now to help Ukraine.
