Have you ever wondered why some of the windows are blocked in a particular old building in England? Well it is most likely because of the Window Tax.
Coming into effect in England in 1696 -this Tax was literally that -a tax on windows. Very unusual tax indeed.
Discussing unusual taxes of England, first up on this list is the Window Tax. This tax is unique enough that it left a lasting remark on the design of houses for generations. If that wasn't enough, you can still see the effects of this tax to this very day. This tax was adopted in some form in Scotland, Ireland and France, you may be able to spot many blocked windows in these places and now know why!
