What is Shear Strain (Example)

Описание к видео What is Shear Strain (Example)

Shear strain is a measurement of the amount of distortion associated with the sliding of plane layers in a distorted shape compared to its original form.

In this example we cover a rubber block that is tightly placed between two plates. One end is fixed, while the other end undergoes a shearing stress from an applied force F. As the rubber is deformed, an angle of deformation is created which we denote with the symbol alpha. The angle of deformation is called the shear strain or angular displacement and increases in proportion to the applied force F.
