Origines et premiers bâtiments

Une église existait à Peltre dès le début du XIXᵉ siècle (construite vers 1829-1830) pour servir la paroisse locale.

Destruction pendant la guerre de 1870

Lors du siège de Metz en 1870, alors que la commune de Peltre-Crépy est le théâtre de combats, l’église est incendiée et détruite avec une grande partie du village.

Reconstruction en style néo-gothique

Elle est reconstruite en 1872-1873 dans un style néo-gothique par l’architecte Rémy Jacquemin.


C’est l’édifice qui se dresse actuellement au cœur du village.

Cloches et éléments remarquables

À l’origine, l’église possédait trois cloches ; seule la plus petite, nommée Justine Antoinette (datée de 1873), a survécu aux réquisitions allemandes de 1917 pendant la Première Guerre mondiale.

Deux nouvelles cloches ont été ajoutées en 1930, offertes par des paroissiens et bienfaiteurs locaux.

L’église se situe face à la mairie de Peltre, près de l’ancienne gare et demeure un point central du village, symbole de la mémoire locale après les destructions du XIXᵉ siècle.

Elle reflète aussi l’histoire plus large de la commune — rurale, puis traversant les épreuves des grands conflits — et constitue un patrimoine architectural local important.

A church existed in Peltre as early as the beginning of the 19th century (built around 1829-1830) to serve the local parish.

Destruction during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870

During the Siege of Metz in 1870, while the town of Peltre-Crépy was the scene of fighting, the church was burned and destroyed along with a large part of the village.

Reconstruction in the Neo-Gothic Style

It was rebuilt in 1872-1873 in the Neo-Gothic style by the architect Rémy Jacquemin.

This is the building that currently stands in the heart of the village.

Bells and Notable Features

Originally, the church had three bells; only the smallest, named Justine Antoinette (dated 1873), survived the German requisitions of 1917 during the First World War.

Two new bells were added in 1930, donated by parishioners and local benefactors.

The church is located opposite the Peltre town hall, near the old train station, and remains a central point in the village, a symbol of local memory after the destruction of the 19th century.
