This Astronaut Felt God While Floating In Space. A Magnificent Meditation Movie

Astronaut Rusty Schweikert gave this speech to a group of Jesuit priests shortly after returning to earth from floating up there out of his spacecraft on Apollo 9. While he was only out of the space capsule for a few minutes, he felt as he describes a massive rise in his awareness of the planet, of earth, of humanity, of all that he knew and all that it contained.

The talk profoundly affected me and I made this documentary In 1979 largely from NASA stock footage presenting his thoughts. The narrator is the famous Forensic Files narrator, Peter Thomas, a close friend of mine.

I have always been what you might call a NASA freak. Friends asked me if I would like to go in a spaceship even if I couldn't return and when I was younger I wasn't sure. I am fascinated by the planets, by the moon, by the universe and I, like astronaut Schweikert, feel that God is everywhere and somehow when you go above the earth and looked back down as so many astronauts have done, you see something special, something that changes you, something that changed Rusty Schweikert.
