Akon City, a futuristic, $6 billion city project in Senegal, has been officially scrapped after years of delays and unfulfilled promises. The project, initially envisioned as a solar-powered, crypto-driven utopia, will be replaced with a $1.2 billion tourism hub. The cancellation follows missed deadlines, construction delays, and a lack of substantial progress, including the failure to develop the promised Akoin cryptocurrency.
