RALLY & PRESS CONFERENCE DEMANDING FOR THE IMMEDIATE RELOCATION OF THE SIMS CONCRETE RECYCLING FACILITY! Tuesday November 26th at 142 Columbia St (off Kane St) at 10:30am join BMT Neighbors Alliance & our elected officials Council Member Shahana Hanif, Assembly Member Jo Anne Simon & Congressman Dan Goldman & along with Community Board 6 who have been working with us tirelessly for months to get the DOT to improve their dust mitigation. The DOT has just ignored us & no attempts have been made to improve their operations so we are now calling for the immediate relocation of this facility. The fact is that this facility should have never been put here bordering a residential neighborhood & because it’s a “temporary” location they are never going to invest in the proper dust mitigation protocols. So it just needs to go! Aside from it spewing cancerous toxic dust all over our neighborhood, it’s also adding to the traffic congestion, exasperating the noise pollution with all the beeping & honking of the trucks & our neighbors across the street report that it’s shaking their buildings. Some of these buildings are over a century old & this is threatening the structural integrity of these buildings. Some might recall that in 2011, 185 Columbia St (a block away) collapsed due to the vibrations from sewer construction . For the aforementioned reasons, it just has to go! Please join us in demanding that this Concrete Recycling is removed from our community! SHUT IT DOWN!
