subaru ascent map light repair

Описание к видео subaru ascent map light repair

I decided to make this video of my permanent solution for our 2019 Subaru Ascent's defective overhead console map light for several reasons. First, I thought that the console design is deficient and will only break again. If I replaced it again, it would be the third overhead console in the car. The original broke and was replaced under warranty. It's important to note that the bulbs are the original stock bulbs that came with the car and the map light and were never replaced or taken out. The second reason is that turning on the lights and hearing sizzling and then seeing the heat damage and melted plastic is not a good feeling and I doubt it's an intended consequence. The light not working at all or sporadically was an issue also, but at least that is safe. Once I found out that the two bolts in the eyeglass case do not interfere with the car cameras, I decided to look into a solution. I started with information I found that others shared on the web, but bending out the bulb socket contacts did not fully solve the problem because the lights were still dimly lit. I also added dielectric grease to stop the sparking as a way to prevent burning and possible fire.
The third reason I decided to look into a permanent solution is the dealer charges $450.00 to remove and replace the console, but the part only costs $190.00 for me to buy, so less for them, and I just couldn't see wasting money on a part that was just going to break again even though Subaru gave me a coupon for a majority of the repair. Let's face it, the repair will take 30 minutes and I don't like getting ripped off. I can remove and replace the part in 30 minutes.
So I soldered in the bulb sockets and now the map lights work as intended- I turn them on and they go on. I turn them off and they go off without sounding like a frying pan.
I decided that I will use the coupon on new suspension parts if we decide to keep the car for much longer. The front struts were each individually replaced under warranty because someone decided that putting a wide spring that begins to flex too much on a strut base that is too skinny to prevent metal on metal contact was a good idea. So I may make a video of a replacement of the struts, shocks, shock bearings, all the springs, control arm bushings and control arm links. The car now has about 60k miles and the suspension is shot again. Small bump, big noise. I'm a little tired of being a ginny pig owner of a first year model car and dealing with the incompetence. But I'm only guessing thats the reason for the problems.
I was a making the video and looked at the ratings for the 2024 Ascent. This vehicle fell down a summit and never got back. It was rated 10 when it first came out, then it fell off the cliff due to the problems- basically to don't buy. Now its a 7 - listed as subpar compared to similar vehicles.
