Someone to run to

Jesus proves his mastery over nature in our Gospel reading today. It is only when the disciples come to the end of themselves that they finally bring Jesus into their situation. When they finally do, the change is immediate and dramatic. From chaos to calm almost instantly we read.

This incident is so typical of us, isn't it? We don't want to bother God with our little problems. We don't always think we need God involved in certain areas of life. And then there are moments when we come to the end of ourselves. Perhaps a relationship on the rocks, a health crisis, or a significant loss suddenly change everything for us. These are the moments when we finally ask God to get involved. And so often the presence of our great caregiver, our great God changes everything.

The lesson here to us is a pretty simple one. Go to God often and quickly when things arise in life. Use the gift of prayer to find God's strength in everything you encounter.
