Assam is famous for BIHU, be it the festival of the traditional Bihu dance. There are 3 types of BIHU celebrations in Assam. Bohag Bihu is the New Year celebration in the state, Magh Bihu celebrates the end of harvesting season and then Kati Bihu, which is celebrated around October. I was lucky to have gotten an opportunity to celebrate Magh Bihu with my friend's family who belongs to the MISHING TRIBE of Assam. Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu is all about the feast, they cook and eat all day and that's why it's called Bhogali (Bhog), It's a big day for the people living in Assam. This year Magh Bihu was celebrated on 15th Jan 2023. The celebration started on 14th Jan when the community came together and cooked and ate - this is called URUKA. They also burn a bonfire kind of structure which represents their deity - this one is called MEJI. A temporary hut is also made to protect Meji, this is called BELAGHAR.

I ate Rice pitha and tried many local foods and the famous tea of Assam. It was overall a great experience. I hope you enjoy watching this vlog.
